(ca) wrote: Karthik Calling Karthik was interesting albeit predictable. The movie still works thanks to a great job by Farhan Akhtar and Deepika Padukone. The first half of the movie was far more interesting than the second. Watch this if you're looking for something different from the regular movies Bollywood comes up wtih.

(us) wrote: With Aliens being a critical success and ending the film in a great way, people expected it to be a proper send off to the Alien franchise, or they are curious to see where it leads next. So at the time, newcomer David Fincher directs Alien 3. Now, David Fincher is one of my favorite directors, and seeing him direct an Alien film that like his other films, thriller would be an interesting way for this and would be back to being like the first movie. The main problem that I was worried about before watching it, is that David Fincher hated what has become the final product of Alien 3, and the studio didn't have him full support on the film. With that said, I think that Alien 3 is a good movie, but it's not like the other films that David Fincher directed. The movie starts off with a disgraceful beginning which really made the fans mad, and James Cameron displeased. It does go back to it a few times which I was a little glad about it that it wasn't like Transformers: Dark of the Moon when they didn't bring it up again after an important event happened. Sigourney Weaver still gives a grand performance, and the other actors are really good as well. The script by David Giler, Walter Hill, which they were involved with the previous films as producers of Alien and executive producers and story writers of Aliens, and Larry Ferguson is not the worst script in the Alien franchise, but it's not the best either and they just don't have the skill for it like Dan O' Bannon for Alien or James Cameron for Aliens. The movie didn't try hard enough to create a lot of memorable characters which this movie only end up with a few characters that are good, and few characters that were just there to die. The alien design is really cool and to see it from its point of view is different from the Alien series, even though it does remind me of The Evil Dead. The computer effects look off, especially around the alien around the alien creature when it moves. The practical effects look good, but isn't as creative as the other films like the planet for example as it doesn't look much different from the other places. It has thrills that can try to keep the viewer invested and it was interesting to see how are they going to defeat the creature as they don't have guns. The tone is still there and never felt out of place or felt like a different Science Fiction movie that just so happen to have the Alien title. The film does have a great ending which would've made a suitable ending to the series, and the most interesting part of the film is when Ripley talks to one of the characters from the second film which gave it a nice end to the conversation. Alien 3 is an underrated film that while it's not as masterfully done well as the previous films, nor David Fincher's other films, it is an entertaining film on its own.
