Alex R (de) wrote: If this was a cartoon it would be funny. But its not and it isn't.

Bradley W (kr) wrote: As an aspiring guitarist and an all round lover of music and movies possessing soul, this movie was amazing! The characters were all great for their roles and the songs that this movie gave light to was astounding...also great to see things from a completely different perspective.

Panta O (kr) wrote: How can you have Bruce Willis and Catherine Zeta-Jones in a movie, and not a bad director like Stephen Frears, and still make something which simply SUCKS! Based on Beth Raymer's memoir of the same title, the film follows a young, free-spirited woman as she journeys through the legal and illegal world of sports gambling. Beth Raymer (Hall) decides to leave behind her life as a stripper in Florida and moves to Las Vegas to become a cocktail waitress in a glitzy casino - her dream job. But, it is easier said than done and she starts working instead for Dink (Willis), a kind and idiosyncratic sports gambler. Dink starts admiring her when she shows him how good she is with numbers, but that is a cause for the ire of Dink's wife, Tulip (Zeta-Jones). It is a movie, based on a true story, and is supposed to be a heartfelt comedy of finding friendship in the least likely places... after watching it I will tell you that is just a boring movie using a book which was boring itself! Don't waste time on this one.

Abhijeet P (fr) wrote: Don't we all love a clean inspirational sports film? The usual underdog - overcoming all the odds and performing a minor miracle in the end. This is not dramatic, but very touching. Anyone who loves cricket will identify with this totally. Brilliant performances all round.

Hannah M (ca) wrote: Some excellent acting, a good script, and overall a very effective story... however, all that being said, I'm not sure it actually did anything to set itself apart from other very good addiction dramas. The Basketball Diaries comes to mind, a movie that I know I was impressed with at the time, but have very few strong memories of today. This is solid, but it is unremarkable, and the story is such a common one that, as well as it is told here, I am sure I will not have any strong memories of a year from now.

Chunyu Z (au) wrote: The movie is best viewed with some pieces of imported Spanish Jamon and a glass of wine instead of popcorn/coke. This way at least you could get something out of the 93 min.

Blake P (ag) wrote: This movie is very good! "The Postman Always Rings Twice" director Tay Garnett made this movie in 1935, and is known today as one of platinum blonde Jean Harlows best. Set in Asia on the ocean, China Seas is a good watch. The special effects are surprisingly in top- form here, and somehow pulled off the effect of being realistic. The waves sweeping over the ship, the boat rocking with the passengers falling about during the storm are all so cool, and the ship being taken over by pirates is well done as well. This is what you can call a movie with three- genres-- it goes from a witty comedy to a disaster movie to a drama in its mere 86 minutes. The actors here are in fine form, and Gable is fresh from his Oscar winning performance in "It Happened One Night" with Claudette Colbert. As much as I expected this to be more of a vehicle for him, it is, in fact, a Jean Harlow movie. Her tough- girl persona polished in this flick, and her pouty and mean faces show exactly what she is known for today, and her battle with Roz Russells character is superb. "China Seas" is a great movie with a stellar cast, so I think you will like it.

Joe M (jp) wrote: It was sort of all over the place...too many conflated characters (no Beaker) and the music out of chronological order BUT ... captured the man pretty well. He is my Christian Hero, he had all the same problems I have and stood up on stage and told you about them.
