Mikael K (us) wrote: Susanne Bier is one of the very greatest contemporary directors. She doesn't do much experimenting, but her vision is clear and potent, her writing brilliantly paced and filled with meaning. This is also the case with "Efter brylluppet".The story begins in the slums of Bombay where Jacob (Mads Mikkelsen) is devoting his life into helping the local orphans. His project is out of funds, though, and an opportunity to raise more money arises in Jacob's native Denmark. Reluctant to return but forced by his altruism to make the trip, Jacob is soon faced with the old axiom that one can never escape family. Denmark harbors secrets and schims, dirty money and selfish greed."Efter brylluppet" is true Bier with its intimate character portrayal and a thematic landscape where psychological insights interact with global isuues and political themes. In Bier's movies the characters realize that what they do reflects upon the whole of the planet, the mental seclusion within national borders is naive denial. And once again she manages to explore some of the pettiest and primitive of human impulses while still maintaining a viewpoint that is inclusive and logically nonjudgemental.

John R (it) wrote: 160925: Decent special effects. The story rolls slowly with a focus on extraneous material; the kid's stuff, mystical animals, magic and such. Picks up near the end and redeems itself. Prisoner is a decent film, perhaps underrated by me in the past. Almost want to give it 4 stars but until another viewing will give it 3.5. The story really only has one big reveal and then it sort of leaves you hanging. Hence the reason there will be so many more I guess?
Dawn C (es) wrote: If you've ever worked in an office setting....YOU KNOW! This movie couldn't be more perfect, there is someone exactly like every single one of these characters and it is miserable...unless you're Lumberg-then you're probably oblivious. I felt like I was living this movie every day for 14 years at my last job...I was a mix of Peter/Milton.
Derek D (au) wrote: A really great film when you don't expect too much more than what's advertised. Bogosian's finest hour by far and really shows you what late-night talk radio is all about. A good film I found for $4 at Big Lots.
