(ag) wrote: A warm, light and enjoyable movie. Brilliant actors, without their skill this movie wouldn't have been interesting at all.
(jp) wrote: A highly enjoyable horror/comedy romp. Disgusting and perverted, this film nods towards old school horror stylings such as 'Return Of The Living Dead' and 'Demon Knight'. If you liked either of these, you will love this. A down trodden hick girl living in a perverted red neck trailer park sells her soul after one too many violations by its residents. For twenty years since, bizzare killings and unsolved disapearances surround the site. The over the top killings and disgusting visuals will make you laugh, and the characters are really entertaining. For instance we have the electric guitar playing zombie, the chinese spine ripping prostitute, the snuff movie making sherrif, the meat sniffing canibal fat woman, the face ripping temptress, to name a few. There is a story bolted on here but it doesn't matter that much because its not taking itself seriously at all. Loved it!

(ca) wrote: I love writers who can write compelling stories with minimal characters and locations. This film is 95% 2 actors in 1 room, yet holds your interest throughout. Not only that, but it has a great philosophical message and political point make
(fr) wrote: Day-Glo Demme excellence. Humanistic and hilarious, featuring a great performance from Michelle Pfeiffer, and I for one appreciate Matthew Modine here as the dorkiest FBI agent ever. The supporting cast is delightful. It's Demme being Demme and doing what he does best.
(ag) wrote: A fascinating and well-made historical film (although the fighting is cheesy at times--people drop dead from tiny pokes that wouldn't break the skin). It leaves you with a strange feeling. You root for the "underdog"--the vastly outnumbered British army--knowing the subsequent history of South Africa, you know the Zulu and other Africans wouldn't fare well under the British or Dutch. It still treats the Zulu people reverently, and the performances all around are top-notch.
