The movie stars Anthony Hopkins as a magician trying to make his break into mainstream success. After failing to capture the audience on opening night he is told by his dying mentor that he needs to utilize his charm to intrigue the audiences going forward. Fast forward to a year later when we see a packed house where Corky (Hopkins) is again performing only this time we see him using a ventriloquist act using a dummy named "fatso". Both Corky's agent and a rep from NBC is there to see this and Corky's act picks up the desired attention he was looking for. When Corky's agent tells him he just needs to get a psyche and physical check Corky is adamant about not doing one which puts a hold on his plans to be a star. The movie then plogs along giving the viewer a deep look into whether or not Fatso is real or Corky is just plain mad. Watching this at 8 or 9 was scary enough, but at 45 the scares werent there except for a couple of creepy moments. Great acting by Hopkins but the movie has not held up over the years in terms of general fright. 6/10

Surprisingly timely too, given the current political climate. Took me two years to get around to seeing this and real glad I finally did - it'll certainly stand the test of time. A
