(mx) wrote: Johnny Depp is absolutely FANTASTIC in Secret Window. Although I could kinda see the twist ending coming, it's creepily directed by David Koepp and easily entertaining.

(es) wrote: I really liked the photography and the dialogues in this movie. A long story of revanche is ended by the sacrifice of a young boy. Adoro o cinema brasileiro com filmes de histrias dos reais onde o mais importante o que acotece na pessoa, as mudanas.

I found it odd for Eastwood to star in a film that takes place in outer space (let alone direct it), but the story works. Space is merely the setting for this film that is about friendship, redemption, and allows Eastwood to play that irritable character that has become synonymous with his acting. The story is rather formulaic but it allows the group of veteran actors to shine as they develop their characters. While I expected more from this cast list, the film offers fine performances by Tommy Lee Jones, Donald Sutherland, James Garner, and James Cromwell. My letdown is probably a result of my expectation for this to be a realistic space exploration film in the vein of "Gravity" or "Interstellar." As mentioned above, this is for of an old-man buddy movie than a space movie. "Space Cowboys" isn't Eastwood's finest film but it is certainly entertaining and worth watching.
(us) wrote: The directorial debut of Trey Parker is in my opinion absolutely amazing. Technical wise it mightn't be the greatest film ever, but the humour is fantastic, the songs are really catchy. And overall it's a Schpadoinkle film!

(it) wrote: It was refreshing to see Clint Eastwood play a more lighthearted role in this offbeat comedy, he was very likeable at times. It was funny to hear him speak in the third person, and the movie has many other funny moments. The first half of the movie was really good, however I felt there were some parts left unresolved in the second half, and kind of magically came together at the end. Although not particularly fond of Sondra Locke, the rest of the cast was pretty good and looked like they had a lot of fun making this movie.

(de) wrote: A chilling piece, based on a true story, made all the more effective by a creepy turn from Richard Attenborough as serial killer John Christie and, even more so, John Hurt's empathetic performance as the naive Timothy Evans. Not the sucker-punch one would expect considering the source material, but a competent, worthwhile production nonetheless.
(ru) wrote: Another David Lean, Noel Coward adaption, This Happy Breed follows the life of a suburban family between the two world wars. A two decade long epic this film has great character development and shows marriage, death, abandonment, and the rest of the occasions a family goes through. It has some funny snip bits of dialogue, and I especially like the communist/anarchists discussion. The film is somewhat dry, but it remains touching and relevant.

(au) wrote: Clive Barker has a real talent for coming up with shit that's confusing but that you can't take your eyes off. It's not a great movie, but at no point do you want to stop watching it, and there's great visceral things in it, fun practical effects, etc. The kind of movie that images of which will stick in your head forever, and the story is far secondary to that. I'm very impressed with something being watchable even though it's quite incoherent. That's a really tough line to ride and this movie rides it well, and that's what makes it a classic.
(ca) wrote: I thought this was one of Eastwood's better performances. The movie wasn't huge at the box-office, but his cop-character was as stellar as ever. He heroically tracks a serial killer, and the chase scene in the end is memorable.
(ru) wrote: A Cloverfield sequel?! Unfortunately, this is not the case with 10 Cloverfield Lane, a spiritual successor to the found footage horror sci-fi film Cloverfield released back in 2008. Aside from its overall tone and general creepiness, the two movies do not share anything in common. But no matter, because this J.J. Abrams-produced film more than lives up to the similarly named film that he also produced several years ago.10 Cloverfield Lane tells the story of a young woman named Michelle, portrayed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who gets into a car accident after having a fight with her fiance in New Orleans. When she awakes, she finds herself trapped in a doomsday shelter built by Howard, played by John Goodman, who tells her the world above is unsafe due to a chemical or nuclear attack on the surface. After a lot of anxiety and an escape attempt, she finally settles down in the bunker with Howard and a local handyman Emmett, portrayed by John Gallagher Jr.I can't delve too deeply into the plot without giving away the one or two major spoilers that the film contains. But, I CAN tell you that the way the film handles the revelation of those secrets is done very well, and the plot is a very interesting and engaging thrill ride. The character of Howard provides an incredible amount of tension and anxiety throughout the events of 10 Cloverfield Lane, making for a tightly wound thriller film. John Goodman does a fantastic job portraying the questionably insane doomsday prepper: he is unpredictable, menacing (largely due to his size), and interesting, and more layers are added to his personality as Michelle and Emmett find out more about his past during the film's events. Mary Elizabeth Winstead also does a great job playing Michelle: her performance is convincing and captivating, and her reactions to some of the surprises in the bunker generally translate over to the audience. The combination of Goodman, Winstead, and the claustrophobic environment introduced by the bunker provide most of the film's tension, relief to which is provided by Gallagher's performance, which is also great.Honestly, there's not much more to discuss about 10 Cloverfield Lane. The acting is great, the story is great, it stands out as an exceptional thriller, and the only real issues it experiences arise from the slow pacing that exists in between the more intense scenes. It's a film I would definitely watch again, and it gets 4 stars.
