jennifer e (fr) wrote: After seeing Beginners, I was expecting more of the same--a moody, contemplative assessment of life and relationships. That alone would have been great, but this film takes it up several notches, both aesthetically and in its approach to storytelling. From the opening image, of the roiling Pacific Ocean, the cinematic beauty is equal to the stellar performances. There's hardly a false note in this movie, but the mastery of Annette Bening as Dorothea is unlike any role I've seen her in before. She somehow sums up an entire generation of women while simultaneously staying true to the specificity of her character. Also wonderful, Greta Gerwig as Abbie, struggling to regain her sense of self after cancer. Also, believe it or not, it's funny. And makes use of a great, crumbling pile of a house. And lots of vintage cars. Best film I've seen all year.

Blair A (it) wrote: Perhaps the worst movie ever made. Acting diabolical, storyline tripe, special effects laughable and scenery/props crap. Oh dear!

Pedro M (fr) wrote: + good core concept, good acting from Al Pacino, "confessing video" idea- inconsistent script, bad editting, weird character fluctuations, weird pacing and changes between some dramatic scenes and some comic situations

Bill R (ag) wrote: I thought this was decent. Not the usual slasher flick and the gore is limited to almost nothing. There's a few scenes but that wasn't bad at all. worth watching if your looking for a cheap horror movie.

Alex T (jp) wrote: Sister Sara's motivation is a mystery that will remain forever shrouded by time. The acting isn't terrible, but neither is it great. Most fans of the "Man with no name" series will probably like this, but I didn't.

Nicholas L (gb) wrote: Grand Piano did not intend to be a grand affair. She has a little story and she only wants to tell it well, which she rather succeeds. When it is time to finish, she does not dwell on too. Elijah Woods gave one of his best performance, telling emotions with few words.

Mathias N (nl) wrote: Don't watch this movie. It's wildly misogynistic and the protagonist is a detestable twat.

Robert W (au) wrote: Yes: BRILLIANT ... what more can I say. Great plot. Beautifully realised, mysterious, visceral in its impact. Wonderful acting - with palpable tension and chemistry between the two leading characters. Photography. And, Yes: mesmerising. One of the VERY best movies I have ever seen in almost 65 years of film going!
