Prasad P (ru) wrote: This epic crime drama from one of India's most acclaimed directors rewrites the rulebook on popular notions of Indian cinema. Taking his cue from the likes of Sergio Leone, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola, Kashyap fashions a grand tale of greed, politics, survival, vengeance and violence in the small coal mining town of Wasseypur in the Dhanbad district in north-eastern India. Interestingly, Kashyap deftly showcases India's corrupt politics, the inexorable link between money, crime and politics and society's obsession with the popular cinema with the control and discipline of a master puppeteer. His eye is never critical, but more observational, making the film more chilling and brutal. Keeping the pace brisk, the action constantly engaging and the tone realistic, he fashions a gangster saga for the ages, using multiple strands to tell a story of warring factions fighting for control of the coal and iron businesses in the region in a tale as great and complex as India itself. It is sometimes hard to keep track of all the characters and their links to this great tapestry, but the brisk pace and compelling storytelling will draws you in and refuse to surrender you till the last reel. Repeated viewing will only serve to further enhance and appreciate the sheer raging brilliance of this film, which will make you change your opinion of Bollywood forever.

What really stands out in Once Upon A Time In Mexico is the many strong individual performances. Johnny Depp is a machiavellian C I A agent who add much comic relief. (the one scene where Depp shoots the cook stands out) Trejoe, Rourke and others have memorable roles. Director Robert Rodriguez creates many artistic and memorable scenes which resemble Sergio Leone classic Westerns. A fun movie to watch. A good movie to turn your brain off and decompress. 3 stars.

matt c (us) wrote: As a movie it's not that great, but the true story behind it was amazing. About an englishman in the 1930's that lives as an Indian in the Canadian wilderness and reaches worldwide fame for a book he wrote on growing up in the wilderness and the importance of conservation. However, two years before his death everyone finds out he's not an indian at all but was born in England. like i said, nothing good as far as a movie, but at least look into the historical side of it.

Jack W (es) wrote: An excellent film. It all starts with the stars, Grant, Arthur and Hayworth. You can't take your eyes off of them the entire film. Hayworth especially steals the show as she is just beautiful. Grant is his usual charming self and Jean Arthur is stunning. The story is flat at times but there are instances that more than make up for them. At 1.06 into the film the aerial sequence is just amazing and part of a great job of cinematography throughout the film. Hawks direction is masterful with some scenes just very well put together. Just another great classical period film!

Schwarzenegger always liked more in comedy than in those tatty and loggerhead movies shootings and punches without argument.
