Eric N (au) wrote: One of the most important movies of the decade in some ways because it's Stephen Chow's breakout film and the first teaming with Ng Man Tat, meaning this is the start of one of film's most important comedy teams. a really crazy, funny classic though it doesn't hold up real well today. and since it is a parody of God of Gamblers you need to see that first.Note: Chow Yun-Fat is not in this movie. He is in 5 seconds of the sequel "God of Gamblers 2".

Matt S (mx) wrote: If Douglas Sirk subscribed to any creed with his 1950's melodramas, it was clearly 'go big, or go home.'This 1954 film (the second screen adaptation of a novel by a minister named Lloyd C. Douglas) pulls no punches as it plays up a weird morality tale that plays as a watered down Christian allegory. All you need to know is that Rock Hudson is a selfish millionaire playboy who gets into a boating accident at the EXACT moment that Jane Wyman's husband has a heart attack and dies because the one resuscitator in town is being used to save Hudson's life. He then falls in love with Jane Wyman after discovering he was 'responsible' for her husband's death the PREVIOUS DAY and starts hounding her like she's the only piece of ass around for miles. She is understandably uncomfortable and as she tries to escape him one afternoon SHE GETS HIT BY A CAR. AND GOES BLIND. What follows culminates in one of the finest Technicolor weepies to ever hit the big screen. In case you actually would ever want to watch such a picture (which I love in ways that I cannot justify), I won't fully spoil the way the story unfolds, but Hudson's character becomes obsessed with making things right. He takes advantage of her blindness to befriend her with a fresh start. Soon enough, he's making plans to have the greatest doctors in Europe restore her sight. And yes, as you can imagine, it gets even more ridiculous than that.
Kestutis K (ag) wrote: An entertaining monster mashup from Universal. It takes Dracula, Lon Chaney Jr.'s Wolf Man, a mad scientist and Frankenstein's Monster and throws them all together into one crazy film. Its not great, but it is really, really weird, which makes it entertaining.
